Javier Blas is the Chief Energy Correspondent at Bloomberg. He reports on the trends in oil, energy and commodities industry within Africa, in frequent posts informative articles on the companies site.
After receiving a BA certificate in journalism from the University of Navarra, Spain, and also studying political communication at Sheffield University, Javier then went on to manage reporters across different continents in London, New York and Beijing to gain access to international coverage for his articles. Prior to his work with Bloomberg, Javier made his way up from Commodities Correspondent to Commodities Editor for the Financial Times in 2010.
His job consisted of creating articles covering the trends and fluctuations in commodities such as crude oil, copper wheat or coffee and analysing there social, economic and political impacts. He also founded the annual FT Global Commodities Summit, the sectors largest gathering of C-suite executives. He has received many journalist awards for his work as well as an A. H Boerma Prize by the United Nations food and agriculture organisation for his coverage and efforts through the 2007 food crisis.
With over 15 years experience in commodities, Javier's knowledge is inspiring to listen to and with covering a lot of oil and energy issues, he is able to bring relevant current affair topics into discussion. He has made frequent appearances on TV and radio. Javier was born in Spain, therefore he is bilingual and can perform in fluent English or Spanish. He can also speak French.
