Emmanuel Acho

American Football analyst and advocate for racial equality, published author Emmanuel Acho is one of the most important figures of the 21st century. His groundbreaking work has led to transformative conversations around race and culture during a pinnacle moment in civil rights history, following the global protests against police brutality in 2020. In 2020, Emmanuel started Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, a social media video series in response to racial tensions in America. He noticed the power of genuine, yet uncomfortable, conversations, where White and Black people could openly discuss important topics. Since starting the show, Emmanuel has interviewed celebrities, White American police officers, religious pastors and more, to open a powerful dialogue. He later turned his series into a highly-acclaimed book of the same name, which sold 18,000 copies on its first day and was named a New York Times Bestseller. 

As an athlete, Emmanuel showed impressive promise in the shot put and discus, before venturing into the world of college football at the University of Texas. While studying for his degree in Sports Management, Emmanuel was a first-team linebacker, and was renowned for his tackling accuracy. In recognition of his talent, he received such accolades as the 2010 Arthur Ashe Award. In 2013, Emmanuel landed his first professional tackle, and kickstarted a thriving career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Aside from his American football career, Emmanuel is best known for his diverse media roles. Starting as an analyst for Longhorn Network, he later progressed to ESPN2’s college football programming. Emmanuel quickly showed his efficacy for online reporting as a host on the Dallas Cowboys’ Cover Four. Now, he is an anchor on the Texas Gameday Desk, and co-hosts Speak for Yourself.
