Italian politician Federica Mogherini has held many important roles during her career from the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to the Vice-President of the European Commission. This Vice-Presidency role was held from November 2014 until November 2019. Additionally she became the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs from February to October 2014 and was also elected for the first time in 2008 to be a Member of the Chamber of Deputies.
Federica earned great status during her terms in parliament where she became not only Vice-President of its Political Committee but also Secretary of the Defence Committee and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee. To add to this she was also a member of the Italian Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She also coordinated the Inter-Parliamentary Group for Development Cooperation and became Head of the Italian Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Playing a key role in the leadership of the Democratic Party since it was founded in 2007, Frederica first held the position of Secretary for Institutional Reforms and then became a member of the National Council followed by Secretary for European and International Affairs. Previous roles included Vice-Presidency of the European Community Organisation of Socialist Youth (ECOSY) and a member of the Bureau of PES (Party of European Socialists). Previous responsibility also included being a member of the Secretariat of the Youth Forum of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and the Bureau of the European Youth Forum.
Federica is of the Group of Eminent Persons (GEM) of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) and a fellow of the German Marshall Fund for the United States as well as of the European Leadership Network for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (ELN).
