The Right Honourable David Lammy MP FRSA is a leading political figure passionate about social activism, diversity and multi-culturalism. Currently a Member of Parliament for Tottenham, David has been a member of the Labour Government and worked as a minister under both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Additionally, he is one of the main presenters on LBC, a popular radio show where David shares his powerful views. With a passionate opinion on issues regarding race and diversity, David is now booked as a speaker for corporate events, discussing topics such as managing diversity in business, crisis management and criminal justice.
Best known for his history in politics, David is currently a Member of Parliament for Tottenham and acting as the Foreign Secretary of State under Prime Minister Keir Starmer. In 2020 he also became a Shadow Lord Chancellor of the Shadow Cabinet for Keir Starmer. Throughout his time in politics, David has championed subjects such as social justice, diversity and multi-culturalism, recently leading campaigns around Windrush British Citizens to be granted full citizenship and justice for Grenfell Tower Fire victims.
Before forging a reputation in politics, David studied at Harvard University, becoming the first black Briton to attend Harvard Law School. Graduating with a Master of Laws, David practised as a Barrister for Lincoln’s Inn. By 2000, David began his political career and was ultimately elected as the candidate for Labour in Tottenham, becoming the youngest member of Parliament at the time. Proving his worth as a politician, David worked as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Department of Health, Minister in the Department for Constitutional Affairs, Minister for Culture and the Minister for Higher Education. He has also Chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Fatherhood and been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
In his role as a Member of Parliament for Tottenham, David is renowned for his passions in diversity, multiculturalism and social justice. He has previously spoken out on issues such as the history of slavery in Britain, antisemitism, shared parental leave and black and ethnic minorities concerning the criminal justice system. He has also spoken out on racial justice, Black Lives Matter and racial bias. In recognition of his reputation as a politician, David has been named on the Powerlist of the Most Influential People in the UK of African/African-Caribbean Descent in both 2020 and 2021 and named as one of the 100 Great Black Britons on both the 2003 and 2020 lists. He has also been sworn in as a member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.
Due to being elected as a front-bench cabinet minister, David is no longer able to accept speaking engagements. However, in the past, David has been the perfect choice for political-themed events. A passionate advocate for social justice, diversity and multi-culturalism, David covered topics such as crisis management, diversity in business, social justice in a multicultural society and UK politics.
