Austin Mitchell

British MP and after dinner speaker Austin Mitchell is a member of the Labour Party and has been the MP for Great Grimsby for more than thirty years.

A former lecturer and sociologist Mitchell became a politics speaker and MP in 1977, having lived and worked in New Zealand for several years. An outspoken MP Mitchell is known for his media appearances and use of modern and social media outlets.

Running his own Twitter account Mitchell has also appeared on documentaries and championed the movement to allow TV cameras into the Houses of Parliament in the early 1980’s when the public were currently only able to rely on insights attained through newspaper and radio reports.

Announcing in April 2014 that he would not be running the next general election Austin Mitchell has already established a notable career as a politics speaker, appearing at both Labour Party functions as well as media and campaign functions as both a political commentator and keynote speaker.

As a keynote speaker Mitchell has discussed his stance on The European Union, the Common Fisheries Policy and the British voting system. Mitchell is known as one of the English MP’s calling for a change in the UK voting system and in 2009 called for a Private Members Debate on the Additional Members System.
