Mike Ford is a rugby union coach who has coached at a number of top European domestic clubs. He has had a number of different coaching roles for clubs but has also expanded his expertise into the international game. Ford originally started out as a rugby league player where he played 396 times for domestic clubs such as Wigan, Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves. Ford also represented England on one occasion and Great Britain on two occasions. He is a Castleford Tigers Hall of Fame inductee and is considered a legend at the club.
Since retiring from a rugby league player, Ford has moved over to the other code of rugby to become a coach. He became the Defensive Co-ordinator of the Irish rugby team in 2002 helping guide the nation to a triple crown win in the Six Nations and to number three in the world rankings. He is an expert in getting the best out of his team and can often explain how he does this during his time as a rugby speaker.
Ford joined Saracens as a defence and skills coach before becoming the head coach in 2005. This was Ford’s first head coach role and was a great achievement in his coaching career. He spent time as a defence coach for the British and Irish Lions midweek team in a period which saw the team go seven games unbeaten. Ford has had to be adaptable throughout his time as a coach and has experienced a number of different style roles and dealt with different types of player, this allows him to speak about adaptability during his time as a rugby speaker.
He has also spent time as a coach with English giants Bath Rugby and Leicester Tigers, whilst also going over to France to become the head coach of Toulon. Wherever Ford has coached, he has improved team performances and added a great philosophy and ethic to the club. He is a well-respected man with a fantastic career behind him.
