Professional Rugby Union player, Mark Wilson played a significant part in England’s 2019 Rugby World Cup squad reaching the final against South Africa on Saturday the 2nd of November. Mark has a long and successful career playing Rugby, playing for a number of amateur teams before progressing to play for senior teams such as the Newcastle Falcons and Sale Sharks.
Mark set out on his esteemed Rugby career back in 2003, when he began playing for Penrith RUFC. In 2006 Mark left the club and began to play for the Kendal RUFC, where he played at the national 3 level. Not long after playing for Kendal, Mark signed a professional contract for Rugby. In his first year after becoming a professional player, he spent time on loan to Blaydon RUFC at the national level 2.
Mark kickstarted his senior career in 2010 when he began playing for the Newcastle Falcons. In 2015 Mark took to the challenge of competing for England senior side, playing in a game against the Barbarians. It was in May 2017 when Mark got his big break in the Rugby World. He was invited by Eddie Jones to attend a training camp with the senior England squad, which lead to him making his first debut against Argentina in the 1st Summer Test.
Mark has continually gained success for himself, obtaining the title of Man of the Match in his first start for England. Mark has gone on to start in all four of England’s Autumn Internationals, incredibly never being subbed off during the series. In 2018, Mark scored his first-ever try for England when they played against Japan.
In 2019 it was announced that Mark would be joining the Sale Sharks to play in the Gallagher Premiership, another great achievement for his Rugby career. Due to his continued success and dedication to Rugby, in August 2019 he was chosen by the once more by Eddie Jones to play for England. This time he was selected to be part of the squad that would play at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, positioned as a back-row forward player.
