Jamie Anderson has worked in conflict zones, global disaster areas and led polar expeditions and is now the CEO of the Parliamentary Knowledge Schemes. Over the course of his career, Jamie has experience responding to global disasters including earthquakes, hurricanes, ship wrecks and oil spills, and has seen how dramatically our experiences can affect our perceptions. He now utilises his experiences to help policymakers make more informed and constructive decisions.
After graduating with a BSc in Geology from the University of Southampton, Jamie joined the Royal Marines as a Commando, where he served for 6 years. While a Marine he studied for his MSc in Environmental Mapping and Crisis and Disaster Management and spent a year working as a Flood Risk Officer at the Environment Agency. This marked the beginning of his career in conflict zones and disaster areas. After leaving the Marines, Jamie joined the Global Disaster Response at OSRL – the Global oil spill response, and worked as an Operational Team Member in the Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team. When COVID hit the UK, Jamie took his experience and expertise in crisis management to FairShare as their Food Crisis Warehouse Founder and Director, where he oversaw the delivery of 2.5 million meals during the first six months of COVID.
After a secondment to the British Antarctic Survey where he sailed on the Sir David Attenborough Polar Ship, Jamie’s career took a step away from disaster zones and towards politics. In 2022, he became the Director of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Polar Regions, where he advocated for greater UK involvement in polar research and environments. Passionate about environmental protection and sustainable development, Jamie spent time as a Special Advisor for the Environmental Audit Select Committee before taking on his current position as Parliamentary Knowledge Schemes CEO, where he is working to transform how policymakers access and engage with knowledge, believing those who have directly engaged with the environments and organisations they work on behalf of, will make more effective and empathetic decisions.
A passionate speaker, Jamie has a wealth of incredible experience and expertise to share. Whether anecdotes from his expeditions or adventures, insights garnered from firsthand experience with the changing environment and climate, or reflections from his venture into politics, Jamie has something for every audience.
