David Howell, otherwise known as Baron Howell of Guildford, is an esteemed Conservative politician and politics speaker. As the former Secretary of State for Energy, he established a foundation of knowledge for sustainability and transport, topics which he discusses as a speaker. Establishing himself as a journalist, he then worked for The Daily Telegraph as their Special Correspondent for four years. As a politician, David was appointed the MP for Guildford in 1966, representing the Conservative party. He held this seat until 1997 when he retired at the general election. Following his retirement, David was titled a life peer, renamed Baron Howell of Guildford for Penton Mewsey, from the County of Hampshire. In 1970, he started as a Junior Minister, before serving as Lord Commissioner of Treasury until 1971, Parliamentary Secretary for the Civil Service Department until 1972. Additionally, he held the offices of Under-Secretary for Northern Ireland and Under-Secretary for Employment until 1972, and then the Minister of State for Northern Ireland and Minister of State for Energy until 1974.
Later in his career, David was appointed Secretary of State for Energy from 1979 to 1981, Secretary of State for Transport from 1981 to 1983, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee from 1987 to 1997, Minister of State for International Energy Policy from 2010 to 2012 and finally, Chair of the International Relations Committee from 2016 to 2019. Over the course of his career, David developed a number of skills which he expands upon in his speaking, offering methods to remain calm under pressure and negotiating business deals.
