Dr Fei-Fei Li is the Sequoia Professor in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University. World-renowned for inventing ImageNet and the ImageNet Challenge, her work substantially contributed to the most recent advances in AI and deep learning. A distinguished cognitive and computational neuroscience expert, Fei-Fei is the Co-Director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute. She also closely works with policymakers to campaign for the ethical use of technologies, recently giving congressional testimony on the responsible use of AI. After completing a BA in Physics from Princeton University, Fei-Fei earned her PhD in Computer Science at Caltech. She became an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois in 2005 before joining Princeton University as an Assistant Professor in 2006. Following that, Fei-Fei became the Sequoia Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, currently teaching students about deep learning, computer vision, machine learning, robotics, computational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, and AI healthcare. Taking a sabbatical for a year, she served as the Chief Scientist of AI/ML at Google, where she led the AI/ML development and research efforts at Google Cloud.
In 2017, Fei-Fei co-founded AI4ALL, championing diversity in STEM and AI. The preeminent scholar is also a Member of the Board of Directors for Twitter, The California Future of Work Commission for the Governor of California and the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource Task Force for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and National Science Foundation. Publishing over 300 scientific articles in leading academic journals, Fei-Fei has also been featured in prominent publications, such as the Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine, Wired Magazine, and the Financial Times. Selected as a 2017 Women in Tech by ELLE Magazine, she was named a Global Thinker by Foreign Policy in 2015 and a Time 100 Most Influential People in AI in 2023.
Recipient of the IEEE PAMI Thomas Huang Memorial Prize in 2022, the National Geographic Society Further Award in 2019 and the 2017 Athena Award for Academic Leadership, Fei-Fei is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Science.
