Laurence Moroney

Laurence Moroney has enjoyed a successful career in the technology sector, having recently become a passionate advocate for the increased understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning. On a mission to educate, inform and inspire the world about AI, Laurence is currently committed to his role as Lead Artificial Intelligence Advocate for Google. Having graduated with a BSc in Physics and Computer Science and a PgD in Microelectronics Systems Designs, Laurence was destined for a fruitful career in the technology sector. One of Laurence’s first prominent roles saw him working as a Product Manager for Vicon Industries, with whom he worked for five years before becoming a Senior Architect for Reuters in 2000. Developing an astute understanding of technological advancements and emerging technologies, Laurence later went on to become the Director of Technology Evangelism for Mainsoft. In 2006, Laurence became a Senior Developer Evangelist and Product Manager for Microsoft, again using his credible knowledge of emerging technologies with the internationally renowned business.

In 2013, Laurence left Microsoft to become an AI Lead for Google, before returning to education and achieving a Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford University. Armed with new knowledge of artificial intelligence, Laurence was promoted to Staff Developer Advocate for Google in 2013, a role he continues today, and Lead Artificial Intelligence Advocate in 2018. Now using his credible experience to inform and educate audiences as a powerful artificial intelligence speaker, Laurence can also be found scaling millions of students via platforms such as Udacity, Coursera and edX. Laurence is also a bestselling author, having written titles such as AI and Machine Learning for Coders, The Definitive Guide to Firebase, AI and Machine Learning for On-Device Development, The Fourth World, Introducing Windows 7 for Developers and Foundations of WPF. Most recently, in 2023, Laurence became a Member of the Board of Advisors for The AI Summit and a Senior Fellow of the AI Fund, a testament to his commitment in the advancement of artificial intelligence.
