Swedish dance-music act Basshunter is the stage name for Jonas Erik Altberg first appeared on the music scene in 1999 releasing his first solo artist album the same year. Working out of his home using a computer programme, Basshunter began to gain genuine popularity in 2006 when he signed his first professional contract, his first single with the Extensive Music/Warner Bros label was an instant hit in Europe and became the first Swedish language song to reach number one on numerous charts around the world.
He released his first major album in 2006 to worldwide success and by mid-2007 was well on his way to writing the second. The solo artists’ next album Now You’re Gone was released in 2008 and the two major singles, Now You’re Gone and All I Ever Wanted were heralded for their narrative videos and quickly became huge hits. The album went straight to UK number one and has achieved platinum sales status in a number of countries.
Basshunter also boasts a great deal of success outside Europe, charting in the US top twenty for several consecutive weeks and hitting the top chart position in both South Africa and New Zealand. Almost ten years after his first solo artist success Basshunter remains a popular music act across Britain and the rest of Europe. His most recent singles, Why and Love Story were released in 2009 to moderate success. Basshunter continues to perform as a solo artist and DJ around the world and is available for hire for corporate, club and commercial events.
