Singer and solo artist James Arthur shot to fame in 2012 after winning the UK’s music act competition the X Factor. Following his victory Arthur went on to release a number one single, Impossible, and a self-titled debut solo artist album.
Born in Middlesbrough James Arthur had long held dreams of becoming a musician and had learnt to play the guitar before auditioning for the X Factor and had already written a number of songs. Working throughout his teens to establish a music career James had performed and recorded as both a solo artist and part of a band, he released two EP’s before auditioning for the X Factor and has previously attempted to make it on the BBC series The Voice but did not make it into the final airing.
Appearing at the X Factor auditions in Newcastle James Arthur performed an acoustic version of the then X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos’ number 1 Young, James became an instant favourite with both judges and fans and after boot-camp joined the boys category and was mentored by member of the American music act the Pussy Cat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger.
Facing the bottom two only once in his time on the X Factor James Arthur was saved by the public vote following a judge’s deadlock with Ella Henderson. The following week Arthur faced up against fellow solo artist Jahméne Douglas and won, garnering almost 54% of the votes.
Since leaving the X Factor James Arthur has released his debut album, which peaked at number 2 in the UK album chart and was nominated for a Brit Award for Best Single of the Year.
