An international star, solo artist Lee Ryan is best known as a member of the chart-topping R&B and pop boy band ‘Blue’. The band, which consisted of Lee Ryan, Duncan James, Antony Costa and Simon Webbe. The group sold 15 million records globally and represented the United Kingdom at the 2011 Eurovision song contest.
Blue released their first single in 2001 and by the time they took a hiatus in 2005, had garnered millions of fans, several number ones and platinum albums. Whilst in Blue, Lee Ryan became known for his powerful vocals and boy-next-door charm and has remained popular amongst fans around the world. As a solo artist Ryan’s first single, Army of Lovers, peaked at number 3 in the UK, whilst his self-titled debut solo artist album reached no. 6. Despite the relative success of his first album a second album never came to fruition, Ryan continued to perform however, touring for the Great Ormond Street Hospital children’s charity throughout November and December 2007. As a group, Blue achieved world-renowned success achieving multiple number 1 songs as well as releasing a song with Sir Elton John which inevitably also achieved a number 1 spot in the charts.
Lee Ryan gained international acclaim as a music act and his song Real Love was used as the end credits music for the blockbuster animated film Ice Age: the Meltdown, in which Ryan also held a small speaking role. In 2011, following the advice of music legend Sir Elton John, Blue were reunited and began working and touring again going on to represent the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest. Outside of his work with the music act, Ryan continued to pursue independent projects and spent time working in musical theatre as well as appearing on several reality television shows such as Celebs Go Dating in 2019 alongside various acting roles in soap operas such as EastEnders. As of recently, Blue decided they would be doing a 20th anniversary arena tour and will release their sixth album ‘Heart & Soul’ in September 2022.
