Sophie Ellis-Bextor is a British singer, songwriter and model. She soared to fame in the late 1990’s, as the lead singer of the indie rock band Theaudience. Following the group’s separation, Ellis-Bextor decided to pursue a solo career. She achieved widespread success in the early 2000’s. Her music consists a mixture of conventional, pop, disco, nu-disco, and 1980’s electronic inspirations.
She released her debut album in 2001, entitled Read My Lips it went on to reach number two in the UK. Albums Chart sales exceeded 2 million, and it was certified double platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. The album produced four singles, three reaching the top three in the UK also winning an award for Best Dance Album. Her second album Shoot from the Hip was released late 2003. It stretched to number 19 in the UK, producing two top ten singles. Her third album had similar success prior to its release in 2007 reaching number seven in the UK. Her third album produced three singles, one reaching top ten in the UK charts.
Ellis-Bextor released the Freemasons collaboration Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer) in 2009 which climbed to number thirteen in the UK. In the same year, she released her first extended play, Sophie Ellis-Bextor: iTunes Live in London.
In 2011 she released her fourth studio album, Make a Scene. It reached 33 in the UK producing a lead single “Bittersweet” which peaked at 25 in the UK. More recently, she released Wanderlust her fifth studio album it was the highest charting album since Read My Lips, it ascended to number four in the UK, the lead single Young Blood reached number 34 in the UK.
