Andy Fordham is a darts world champion legend, best known for his no-holds-barred style of play and charismatic personality. Andy’s diverse career has led to him becoming one of the most respected darts speakers, delivering on topics such as peak performance and maximising success, along with personal battles he has experienced including weight loss and alcohol.
A keen young footballer, Andy played for the Angerstine Hotel Football team after leaving school, it was here that his love of darts was sparked. After a training session one day, Andy’s teammates asked him to play for their darts team after being left a man short. Although useless to begin with, a team member spotted his potential and uttered the life-changing phrase; ‘Sign him up – the lad’s got potential’. Andy shot from the Kent Super League before entering County-level competition, touring the country and enjoying life at the top of a sport. Andy went on to win the BDO 2004 World Championships and represent his nation at four World Cups, with three being victorious campaigns.

Andy stopped playing darts in 2007 after experiencing chest pains and breathing difficulties before his first-round match against Simon Whitlock at the BDO World Championships. Andy weighed 31 stone and had a liver with only 25% functionality at the time, this health scare pushed Andy into a weight loss program, losing 17 stone in weight and prolonging his need for a liver transplant for five years.
He made a grand return to the spot in 2013 when he competed at the 2013 Dutch Open. Some of his most recent successes include reaching the quarter-finals of the Jersey Classic, the last 16 of the Hal Masters, German Masters and the BDO International open. He became the ambassador to the British Disability Darts Association in 2016 before securing a wildcard for the 2016 BDO World Trophy.
