John Lowe

Three time World Darts Champion John Lowe was one of the best known and highly skilled players of the 1970s and 1980s. Very much the gentleman of the game, John is best known for being the first ever player to win a World Championship title in three different decades. In addition to his three world titles, John also won two World Masters titles, two British Open titles and two World Cup singles titles. Lowe also played for England over 100 times, captaining the side for seven years, in which his team was unbeaten.

Achieving the snooker equivalent of Golf’s hole-in-one, John became the first darts player on television to score a nine dart finish in 1984, winning a staggering £102,000 for this achievement. The event is still hailed as one of the greatest in darts history and has seen John praised for his consistent winning formula of a slow and steady approach.

Regularly commended for his sportsmanship and professionalism, John was popular with fans as he stayed well grounded despite his success. His popularity and talent got John inducted into the PDC Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2019, for his services to darts and charity, John was awarded a Member of the British Empire (MBE) at Buckingham Palace.
