Len Goodman


Known for his charming personality and as the former head judge on the Strictly panel, Len Goodman is amongst some of the most popular after-dinner speakers on our roster. Goodman actually began his career as an apprentice welder for Harland and Wolff. It was when he turned 19 that his love for dancing first began and he began winning a variety of competitions. He won the Carl Alan Award before taking the British Championship trophy only in his late 20’s and then retired from professional dancing.

Even since 2004 when Strictly Come Dancing first aired, Len Goodman was the head judge for the competitive dance reality show. He built up a reputation as the generous yet fair member of the panel by offering constructive and kind words to the celebrity contestants. In 2005, he was also invited to become the head judge of the America adaptation of the show, Dancing With The Stars.

Other TV programmes Len has been included in involve a three-part BBC documentary on The Titanic, Len Goodman’s Dance Band Days and Who Do You Think You Are. More recently, he has also begun hosting a show titled Holiday of My Lifetime where he takes contestants on a throwback trip to their childhood holiday destination. Also with a love for music, Len regularly presents on BBC Radio 2 and is the deputy for Paul O’Grady. He has also been part of the Radio 2 Pop Up 50’s station.
