Andy Haldane

Andy Haldane is revered for his tenure as the Chief Economist of the Bank of England, overseeing the economics of the 300+-year-old bank and spending an incredible 31 years working for the Bank of England. Having also been a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, Andy has fostered a reputation as an expert economist whose financial expertise is highly acclaimed across the globe. Today, Andy is a member of the Council of Economic Advisors for HM Treasury and Chair of the Industrial Board of the AMRC Training Centre, amongst being hired as a keynote speaker to detail his expertise on finance, economics, banking and business.

Back in 1989, Andy began working at the Bank of England, later appointed as the Chief Economist, enjoying a long and fruitful career working in the banking sector, advising the world’s dignitaries on economics and financial issues – sitting in departments of the Bank of England such as Monetary Analysis Division, International Finance Division and the Market Infrastructure Division. During the course of his career at the Bank of England, Andy has also worked as a Visiting Fellow of Nuffield College, Chair of the Industrial Strategy Council and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. In addition to his tenure at the Bank of England, Andy has also become the Founder and President of Pro Bono Economics, a charity that is dedicated to broking economists into charitable projects. Having retired from his duties at the Bank of England in 2021, Andy has enjoyed further success as the Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Office and as the CEO of The Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).

In addition to his duties as the CEO of The RSA, Andy has also acted as the Chairman of the Leadership Council of National Numeracy, an Honorary Professor of the University of Nottingham, an Honorary Professor of the University of Manchester, a Fellow of The Royal Society, an Honorary Professor of the University of Exeter and a Visiting Professor at King’s College London. Most recently, Andy has dedicated time to being a Contributing Editor of the Financial Times, and being the Chairman of the Levelling Up Advisory Council of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Fostering a reputation as an advisor for the world’s most prestigious Government officials and businesses, Andy has also shared his expertise as an author of over 200 articles and four informative books.
