Anna Leach is the Chief Economist of the Institute of Directors (IOD), also famed for her former role as the Deputy Chief Economist of the Confederation of British Industry. Having led the economic intelligence team that produced and analysed the CBI’s economic surveys, Anna has forged a reputation for providing detailed macroeconomic forecasts. Now hired as an authoritative keynote speaker, Anna is sought after to share her expertise in economics, ensuring that economics is integrated into policy making throughout the business sector.
Before forging her success at the CBI, Anna worked in the Government Economic Service (GES) in various roles at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Some of her most prominent roles include being an Economic Advisor to HM Treasury, coordinating and signing off macroeconomic briefings and communication strategies, and Economic Adviser to the Department for Work & Pensions. She later progressed into the role of Committee Specialist on the Treasury Select Committee in the House of Commons, a role in which she provided detailed analytical support to the committee. She has since worked as an Economic Adviser to the Parents Employment Directorate, assessing data regarding children living in workless households. In 2008, she initially joined the CBI as a Fiscal Economist, progressing through the ranks into roles such as Head of Economic Analysis for the CBI and Head of Economic Intelligence for the CBI.
In addition to the commitments of her job roles, Anna also shared her time with being a member of the CBI Executive Committee, Management, Programme Delivery and Membership Boards, ensuring that economic resources are effectively deployed throughout the country. In 2024, Anna was appointed as the Cheif Economist at the Institute of Directors (IOD), providing her expert economic insights at the UK's largest membership organisation for business leaders. In her new job role, Anna is keen to work with business leaders ahead of the 2024 General Election, acting as a voice for business leaders and shaping the UK economy and policy environment.
