Kamal Ahmed is renowned as the Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The News Movement, an initiative that aims to provide people, particularly Gen-Z, with information they can trust on platforms they frequently use. Having worked a highly successful career in media and journalism, Kamal believes in the supreme power of storytelling and hopes to inspire and engage his audiences. On a mission to drive change and progress, Kamal is now hired as a keynote speaker and host for a variety of corporate and public events to share the power of storytelling.
Educated at the University of Leeds, Kamal stepped into the world of journalism as a Reporter for Scotland on Sunday. He then became the Royal Correspondent for The Guardian, later assuming responsibility as the Media Editor for The Guardian. In the year 2000, Kamal joined as the Political Editor at The Observer, before becoming the Executive Editor of News at The Observer. Kamal has since worked at numerous prominent newspapers in the UK, including being the Business Editor for the Sunday Telegraph. Joining the BBC, Kamal started working as the Business Editor, before serving as the Economics Director and finally the Editorial Director at the BBC – a role of great prominence.
Most recently, in 2024, Kamal was appointed as the Director of Audio at The Telegraph. He is also the Presenter of The Daily T, solidifying his prominence as a powerful journalist. As a reward for his talent as a journalist, Kamal has been honoured with awards such as the 2013 CFA Society UK's Ethical & Professional Standards Award. He was also named one of the UK’s Most Influential People of African or African Caribbean Heritage on the Powerlist. With decades worth of editorial experience in his arsenal, he is also the President of the Society of Editors.
Besides his current role at The News Movement, Kamal also serves as one of the Board Members at the Media Trust, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Governor of the NIESR. A prolific speaker he was invited to share his views at WAN-IFRA - the World Association of News Publishers Congress.
