Sporting a wealth of knowledge and an eclectic career, Rebecca Charlton isn’t your ordinary cyclist. After earning a degree in Journalism she has turned her passion for two wheels into a thriving career in journalism, literature and advocating for women’s accessibility in cycling.
Coming from a family of cyclists, Rebecca’s first taste of competition was the Cyclo-Cross Under-8’s, from there she became the first girl to ride at the National Track Championships in Manchester. To date she has raced in several disciplines of competitive cycling, gaining essential knowledge from first-hand experience. Alongside cycling icon Anna Glowinski, Rebecca set up women only track sessions in London, to engage more women with the sport. In a year alone, the sessions grew from 3 to 30, expanding the accessibility of cycling for all.
Rebecca is vocal about all areas of cycling, from nutrition to post-race aftercare. Through her book, Fitter, Further, Faster, she offers advice for first time riders and experienced racers on the preparation, training, race and recovery necessary for road-riding and sporting events. As well as the riding itself, she also touches upon the importance of having the right nutrition, coping with extreme weather, road etiquette and handling cycling injuries; Rebecca has used her cycling career to benefit the riders of tomorrow. With experience in writing for a number of women’s magazines and national newspapers, Rebecca’s written work spans across numerous publications.
Her wealth of knowledge and inspiring tales can also be found on screen, as well as on paper. Rebecca regularly hosts large-scale Q&A’s, most notably, the Program Film Premier at the Barbican with director Stephen Frears and journalist David Walsh, The NEC Cycle Show alongside Ned Boulting, The SBRT Expo with Mark Foster and The London Bike Show. She can be regularly found trackside, hosting on the spot interviews with some of cycling’s greatest riders for the Face Partnership Revolution Cycling on Channel 4, as well as presenting Motorsport Grand Prix for Eurosport.
