Chris Gibson MBE is a former British Army Colonel with more than three decades’ experience of leading elite teams in some of the world’s most challenging environments. He has dedicated his career to understanding the drivers of success – and what holds organisations back. Starting out as a Warrant Officer at the UK Ministry of Defence in 1984, Chris gained valuable knowledge and experience, advancing up the ranks of the Armed Forces. From there, his career took him across the globe, notably spending 18 months in Beirut as part of a joint Special Forces team leading efforts to secure the release of Terry Waite; 12 months in Sarajevo in a Special Forces team tasked with capturing indicted war criminals; 16 months in Sierra Leone managing the President’s personal security during the Civil War; and leading close protections operations in the Middle East during the Second Gulf War, including protecting world leaders such as Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Chris has proven how he can adapt military precision to civilian challenges. As Chief Instructor of the Army Medical Services Training Centre, the world’s largest medical simulation centre, he co-developed a training and assurance methodology that has been adopted as international best practice by the militaries of the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. His leadership was also instrumental in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease in West Africa, deploying and training over 1,200 military and NHS volunteers.
Chris’ groundbreaking efforts have seen him appointed an MBE, awarded the Health Service Journal Special Recognition Award, and named International Innovator of the Year 2017-18 by Ideas UK.
