Annahita Nezami is a Chartered Psychologist, author and the Founder of Overview Effect Therapy and EarthScapeVR. Much of her career has been dedicated to researching the scientific value of therapeutic experiences like the Overview Effect – a term used to describe the shift in awareness some astronauts experience whilst viewing the earth from space. During her keynote speeches, Annahita discusses space health, ecopsychology, neuroscience, trauma, stress, digital therapy, states of consciousness and performance.
In 2007 Annahita graduated from the University of Roehampton with a degree in Psychology and then went on to gain her master’s in Forensic Psychology from Middlesex University. Further adding to her education, over the years Annahita has gained a master’s in Counselling Psychology and Intensive Advanced Training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. From 2012-2017 Annahita completed her PhD in Counselling Psychology, specialising in how astronauts were affected by their experience of seeing the planet from space. With a deep understanding of psychology, Annahita has held numerous roles as a psychologist, including an Assistant Psychologist for Priory Group, a Locum Counselling Psychologist at West London Mental Health Trust and a Counselling Psychologist for The British CBT & Counselling Service.
Based on the remarkable findings of her PhD, Annahita has since founded EarthScapeVR where she provides virtual trips to Space as a form of therapy. She has over two decades of experience working as a psychologist helping her clients with their mental health. She can guide you through tough times with evidence-based therapies and has become highly requested as a speaker. Annahita has delivered talks at various national and international conferences, including sharing her views on the TEDx stage with her talk entitled ‘The Therapeutic Value of the Overview Effect and Virtual Reality’.
Annahita is devoted to improving mental health services in the UK and has also been raising awareness around such issues on BBC Radio 4. With Annahita’s unrivalled expertise in her field, she has advised numerous organisations such as the Human Space Program and is now a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
