
Adrian Newey is a renowned engineer, best known for his distinguished career in motorsports as an automotive designer. Highly regarded for being the Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull, Adrian was the designer of the most successful F1 car in history, the RB19. Having also worked for F1 teams such as Williams and McLaren, Adrian is now the Technical Director and Co-Owner of Aston Martin F1, appointed during the 2025 season. Originally working for the Fittipaldi Formula One team, Adrian’s first major success was earned working as a Designer for March Engineering. In this role, Adrian was responsible for the design of the March 85C and 86C cars that went on to win the 1985 and 1986 Indianapolis 500 and IndyCar Championships. He was also responsible for the design of the March GTP car, winning the IMSA GT Championship in 1983 and 1984, and the 1984 24 Hours of Daytona. In 1990, March Engineering became Leyton House, with Adrian promoted to the role of Technical Director. In 1991, Adrian bid the team farewell to join Williams as Chief Designer. With Williams, Adrian was the Chief Designer of the FW14B, FW15C, FW16, FW18 and FW19, winners of five Drivers’ Championships and four Constructors' Championships.
Adrian would later join McLaren as the Technical Director, designing the MP4/13 and MP4/14, winning two Drivers’ Championships and one Constructors’ Championship. In 2006, Adrian began his decorated tenure with Red Bull, designing the RB6, 7, 8 and 9 cars, all of which secured a clean sweep of Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. In honour of his success as an automotive designer, Adrian was appointed OBE and received an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Sussex and a Doctor of Engineering from Oxford Brookes University. 2023 was one of Red Bull’s most successful years, with Adrian’s design of the RB19 winning 21 out of 22 races, securing a landslide victory for the Drivers’ and Constructors’. Adrian’s final design for Red Bull, the RB20, won the Drivers’ Championship, before he joined Aston Martin F1 as Technical Director and Co-Owner in 2025.
