David Coulthard is a former British Formula One driver, who enjoyed 14 years, 15 seasons and 247 races in the sport. Competing in a highly competitive era of motorsport, David was always in contention for victory and raced wheel to wheel with some of the most combative drivers to ever feature, including Mika Häkkinen, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen. David’s experiences in motorsport beginning with Karting aged 11, have led him to become a pre-eminent motorsport speaker for events and private functions.
David began racing for the Williams F1 team in 1994 after the death of F1 legend Ayrton Senna, although Nigel Mansell was drafted into the second car instead for the final three races of the season. Staying on with Williams in 1995, David went on to gain his first victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix and never finished below fourth all season. David would have finished highly in the season but eight retirements tarnished his overall result.
David signed a contract with McLaren for the next year’s racing, a relationship that would continue until 2004. Formula 1 is always a highly competitive environment for securing a driving seat for each season, David’s longevity and consistency in the sport translates to audiences fantastically during question and answer session at events, proving testament to his ability as motorsport speaker.
David finished his career at Red Bull Racing between 2005-2008, becoming part of an elite group of athletes that have raced more than 200 times in the sport. Coulthard drove with Klien and Webber during this time and enjoyed a number of podium finishes and consistent placement within the top ten drivers in the sport. Announcing his retirement in 2008, David finished his career as one of the most highly regarded and experienced racing drivers on the grid.
After retiring from competitive motorsport, David has become a regular face of motorsport on the BBC, becoming an elemental figure in the broadcaster’s presenting and commentating team. David’s honest expert advice has allowed him to become a highly accomplished on-screen personality and a favourite amongst audiences. David has also made a return to the motor racing scene as a driver in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. Following on from his comeback in 2010, he has managed to display his incredible talents in a different area of driving. Contracted with Mucke Motorsport, he finished first in his debut races, a style of performance he upheld until going back into retirement in 2012.
