What is International Day of Charity?
International Day of Charity was coined by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, marking the start of the celebration. The day encourages individuals, groups and businesses to embark on charity fundraisers - by choosing the cause closest to their hearts and organising unique, innovative ways to connect with those who may donate.
Originally declared as a Hungarian Civil Society initiative, the special day calls for people to unite under a common cause – to eradicate poverty and distress, and promote peace. It is celebrated on the day of Mother Teresa’s passing, recipient of the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, to honour the strides made by former pioneers of charity.
From underfunded education to poverty, discrimination to climate change, the vast number of worthy causes that require our attention are endless, not to mention the local charities that many communities rely upon. Use International Day of Charity as a reminder not just of our own privilege, but the power of fundraising.
With keynote speeches featuring at the UN’s first commemoration in 2013, public speakers have played a pinnacle role in the celebration from the very beginning. Event hosts are no different, as their entertaining presence at charity fundraisers serves to resonate with audiences. Your guests will reach deeper into their pockets, with our insightful presenters.
