Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF), delivered the most recent Dimbleby lecture on Monday 3rd February 2014.
The annual lecture was established in memory of BBC broadcaster Richard Dimbleby and has been delivered every year since 1972 by a high profile business or political speaker. Previous influential speakers have included Bill Gates, Prince Charles and Bill Clinton.
Entitled ‘A New Multilateralism for the 21st Century’, Lagarde’s lecture covered points including tensions in global interconnections, demographics and income inequality. Charismatic and plain-speaking, she shared her thoughts on the world and the changes she predicts for the future
Christine Lagarde previously held a variety of ministerial posts in the French government including Minister of Economic Affairs, Finance and Employment. She is the first woman to head the IMF and was ranked the 8th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine.
