Renowned British journalist, newsreader and BBC News correspondent, Reeta Chakrabarti is widely recognised as one of the main presenters for BBC News at One, Six, Ten and BBC Weekend News, as well as presenting regularly on the BBC News Channel.
Born in Ealing, London and raised in Birmingham, Reeta spent time in India as a teenager. She has a degree in English and French from Exeter College, Oxford, and spent a year in France as a student. She is an Honorary Fellow of Exeter College, Oxford, and has an honorary degree from the University of East London.
Initially starting her career as a reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live’s Breakfast Programme, she later moved to television and became the BBC’s Community Affairs correspondent. Over the course of her successful career, the diverse reporter has also reported on stories related to adoption, poverty, and social mobility in the UK. Other reports have included looking at the issues of abortion in Chile and in Poland, the rise of female executives in India, the trafficking of young women from Albania, and the migrant crisis in Europe. She has reported several times on the Rohingya crisis from Bangladesh and Myanmar, and anchored the BBC’s coverage of the 70th anniversary of the Partition of India and Pakistan in 2017. She has also presented on the BBC News Channel, BBC World, and Radio 4’s The World Tonight.
Reeta has chaired and hosted many corporate events, including hosting the 2018 Royal Television Society (RTS) Journalism Awards, several Education Television Award Dinners at the RTS, plus conferences on climate change, the criminal justice system, the NHS, and the travel industry.
