Named Newscaster of the Year, Mary Nightingale is a British newsreader and television presenter whose best recognised for her role within ITV, ITN and ITV News. She is also known for her presenting role on the daytime cookery series, Britain’s Best Dish.
Mary’s television career initially started in 1990 when she auditioned and received the job for TV Tokyo: World Business Satellite which included spending five years reporting the main financial news from Europe. With her excellent writing skills and city experience Mary got the chance to cover high profile stories from the release of Nelson Mandela to the toppling of Margaret Thatcher.
Mary first graced the UK audience in January 1993 where she initially presented the late night bulletin on London Tonight and co-presented with Alastair Stewart in 1996. During her time within this role she also became one of the first women to present high profile sports eventITV Rugby World Cup and BBC Ski-Sunday, other work included newsreader on BBC Radio Five Live and presenting for Reuters Financial TV.
Mary returned to ITN in 2000 for the re-launch of the Evening News, a programme that has won three RTS Awards during her position. Mary is an avid charity supporter who who took part in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, with Des Lynam and as a result donated her winnings of £64,000 to charity. Mary is a two time winner of the TRIC Awards in the category Newscaster of the Year, winning first in 2002 and 2004.
