Evan Davis is one of the most recognisable and well-known faces of modern day television, hosting roles as the presenter of both Newsnight and Dragon’s Den. Additionally, Davis also hosts a weekly business discussion programme, The Bottom Line.
As well as serving these regular programmes, Davis also takes an active role in one-off projects on BBC television and radio. Most recently, Davis explored the economic divide between London and the regions in Mind The Gap, which was broadcasted in March of 2014. This had followed on from 2012’s Built in Britain based around the UK’s infrastructure and engineering challenges. In 2011, Davis presented Made in Britain, a three-part series with an accompanying book, discussing how the country pays its way into the world.
In 2011, Davis was also one of a number of journalists that were involved in a BBC One Panorama special titled Breaking Into Britain, a moving account of the journeys of migrants take to get into Europe and the UK.
Prior to hosting Today, Davis was the Economics Editor at the BBC; this is the most senior economics reporter within the corporation. Davis was given this position prior to working as an Economics Correspondent for the BBC, as well as being economics editor of Newsnight throughout the 1990’s.
Before joining the BBC in 1993, Davis was an economist at the Institue for Fiscal Studies, and at the London Business School. Davis has written numerous papers and articles as well as regular newspaper and magazine columns. Davis has also written a book entitled Public Spending. Furthermore, Davis is also a co-author of the Penguin Dictionary of Economics and the New Penguin Dictionary of Business.
In the last year, Davis has won numerous awards. He was the Political Studies Association Broadcaster of the Year; he won a bronze Sony award as Speech Broadcaster of the Year and Made in Britain, won the Harold Wincott Foundation Business Television Programme of the Year award. Davis is also the current presenter of the BBC’s award-winning show, Dragons Den, working with large investors such as Deborah Meaden, Nick Jenkins, Peter Jones CBE, Sarah Willingham and Touker Suleyman.
