Troy Deeney is a broadcaster, pundit and former Premier League footballer, widely known for his honest and hard-hitting commentary style. With over 500 professional appearances, Troy’s transition from football pitch to media stage has been nothing short of inspiring. One of his biggest achievements remains captaining Watford FC to Premier League promotion in 2015 and becoming the club’s all-time Premier League top scorer. Now a sought-after media personality, Troy commands attention with his fearless approach to topics often left untouched in mainstream football discourse.
Troy's path to success was far from conventional. Raised in Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham, his early life was marked by hardship – expelled from school at 14 and later imprisoned in 2012. However, he defied the odds, returning to education to earn GCSEs in English, Maths and Science, setting an example in perseverance. His footballing journey began at Chelmsley Town, before he was spotted and signed by Walsall FC, where he became Player of the Year in 2009–10. A £250,000 move to Watford FC followed, where his determination on the pitch earned him the captain’s armband and legendary status.
Over 11 years at Watford, Troy scored 140 goals in 419 appearances, earning iconic moments such as the unforgettable 2013 play-off semi-final winner against Leicester, described as one of football’s greatest finishes. He later joined his boyhood club Birmingham City, becoming club captain in 2022. Off the pitch, Troy has found his second calling. He is now a Sky Sports EFL pundit, a regular on TalkSport, and co-host of BBC Sounds’ ‘Football Firsts’ alongside Jermain Defoe. In 2022, he fronted the Channel 4 documentary ‘Troy Deeney: Where’s My History?’, advocating for the inclusion of Black, Asian and minority ethnic histories in the UK curriculum. He also hosts the podcast ‘Deeney Talks’, where guests like Elton John, Ian Wright and Anthony Joshua discuss life, pressure and legacy.
Today, Troy is in high demand as a motivational and keynote speaker. He speaks with raw authenticity on topics including leadership, resilience, mental health, social justice, and life after sport. His journey - from bricklayer and prisoner to Premier League captain, coach, and respected broadcaster -makes him one of the most powerful and relatable voices in sport and media. Whether addressing corporate audiences or young people, Troy Deeney delivers messages that stick – real, relevant and ready to inspire.
