Born into a wine merchant family, Tom Aikens discovered French cuisine from an early age. Helping his mother as a child in the kitchen, preparing cakes biscuits and meals, Tom became enthused about cookery almost immediately. A wonderful celebrity chef, Aikens has intrigued audiences on television and at food shows with his innovative culinary techniques as well as his passion for seasonal local ingredients.
Enrolling at Norwich City College Hotel School, Tom had found a profession for himself he was good at as well as something he enjoyed. Gaining his first job at David Cavalier’s Michelin starred restaurant, Aikens went on to work at La Tante Claire at the time of gaining a third Michelin star. Along with working with Phillip Britten and Richard Neat, Tom’s experience and skill level continued to grow.
Becoming Head Chef of Pied à Terre aged 26, Tom was the youngest British chef ever to receive two Michelin stars. Staying at the restaurant for five years, Tom then opened his own venue in Chelsea. Going on to open a further five more venues in recent years, Aikens reputation as a pre-eminent authority in the culinary world is proven by his ever growing business empire.
Alongside his illustrious career as one of the nation’s leading chefs, Tom has also made regular appearances on Market Kitchen as well as Great British Menu, showcasing his talents and allowing Aikens to provide compelling dishes to audience acclaim.
