Daniel Clifford is known as one of the most inventive and gifted chefs of his generation, using the finest local produce to reinvent the all time favourite British classics. Daniel is a very highly regarded professional chef with over twenty years experience perfectly mastering his modern British cooking with an unmistakable french style, to gain himself two Michelin stars. Chef Patron at Midsummer House Cambridge - a restaurant which has collected two Michelin stars for its excellent food and also Executive Chef and owner of The Flitch of Bacon in Little Dunmow, Essex.
Daniel started off at the bottom of his industry slowly working his way up in responsibilities at a variety of different restaurants. Employed first, in his hometown of Canterbury kent, as a commis chef at Howfield Manor Hotel before becoming a commis chef at The Bell Inn in 1992. The following year he began working at Marco Pierre White’s Box Tree as a Demi-Chef de Partie before finally working his way up through responsibilities at a variety of different restaurants including some in France. His final role before becoming head chef at Midsummer House in 1998 was as a senior sous chef at Rascasse in Leeds.
Midsummer House was certainly a stand out restaurant achieving its second Michelin star in 2005, becoming the only new restaurant to earn a second star that year. The standards were that high that MidSummer became one of the eleven restaurants to be at that level of Michelin Guide’s scheme in the UK and Ireland. Daniel has became a recognisable figure on television after competing and winning twice against the top chefs on BBC’s annual Great British Menu. Due to his double success and noticeable one of a kind talent, he has now become a judge on the show. Winning the 2012 series with a stand out main course and winning 2013 series with his “Going Out With A Bang” dessert.
Daniel’s contribution to culinary hasn't gone unnoticed, being told by many that he’s an “inspiration to so many chefs at all levels” and regularly being praised for turning Midsummer House into one of the finest restaurants this country can offer. At the 2015/16 AA Awards held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Daniel was awarded with the prestigious award of Chefs’ Chef of the Year.
