To be awarded a Michelin star is the honour and ambition of every great chef, and one Bains is familiar with, after he achieved not only one but two Michelin stars in 2003 and 2011 for Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham. Upon opening the award winning restaurant in 2002, Bains vowed to use local produce, innovative menus and create a high class dining experience, something he has done with aplomb, as was recognised with five AA Rosettes. For his personal success, Bains was awarded the Chef Award at The Catey Awards in 2015 and prior was named Which? Good Food guide Chef of the Year in 2011.
A career in cookery was not always the ambition for Bains, who initially signed up for the Derby College catering course to try his luck with his predominantly female classmates. However, the cheeky chap soon found his flair in the kitchen was natural, and the gifted chef decided to pursue a career in the industry, cheffing first at Mick Murphy’s restaurant before transitioning to fine dining at the likes of Le Petit Blanc and L’Escargot. In 1999 Bains secured the opportunity of a lifetime, winning the Roux Scholarship to study in France, despite losing his job part way through the competition, a testament to his unparalleled talent.
Often seen in the public eye, Bains’ self made success makes him a relatable figure, popular with programme viewers, combined with his international acclaim and enviable culinary skills he is the full package for appearances. From Saturday Kitchen Live to Mind of a Chef, Bains most prominent television showcase was as a competitor on the Great British Menu, where he won the regional round, ahead of other professionals. A celebrity chef whose hard work, dedication and talent has seen him become a global culinary icon, Sat Bains is the ideal addition to your occasion as a demonstrator or speaker.
