Sam Oldham is a British Olympic gymnastic. He was in the British men's team during the 2012 Olympics, the team winning a bronze during the event. He is a three-time junior European Champion, winning the horizontal bar gold medal during the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. He was included in the 2010 Senior World Champions as a reserve gymnast, being the youngest member on the British team. However he didn't take part in the competition. Sam has been a talented gymnast since a very young age, taking up the sport at just seven years of age. He was recommended to take on the sport by a teacher, and has never looked back since. Before taking on gymnastics Sam played football, playing for the Notts County Football Club Centre of Excellence.
Sam was so good at football that he received a number of offers from other football clubs, including Nottingham Forest Football Club and Derby County Football Club. However, Sam had found his passion in gymnastics and instead decided to follow that. After being selected for the British team in 2011 he travelled to Berlin to partake in the 2011 European Men's Artistic Gymnastic Championships once again being the youngest member. It was his first major senior final he finished as the second reserve for parallel bars final and fourth place on the horizontal.
Due to injuries during the 2011 Championships he missed out on taking part of the British squad at The London Prepares series gymnastics qualifier in 2012. Despite the injury, he ended his first senior year winning a silver in all-around at the British National Championships. He was then selected for the British squad for the Olympics. Being just 19 he was the youngest team member to be added to the British team in gymnastics. He achieved bronze in the mens all-around final at the 2012 Olympics. During the European Championships in 2014 Sam Oldham and his team achieved Silver medal behind Russia. Sam won a silver medal in the high bar. Despite suffering from an ankle injury at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he still managed to return to compete just nine months later. He placed third overall in the all-around, he won the floor exercise in the final trail for the Olympics, unfortunately he didn't make the team for the 2016 Olympics.
