Official Feedback from In-Person & Virtual Events
“Sabah created a truly powerful and emotionally resonant space by sharing their raw and deeply personal experience of caring for their father through the lens of an LGBTQ+ identity. Their vulnerability invited others to reflect, not just on caregiving or queerness, but on how love, grief, identity, and culture intersect in ways we don’t often speak about openly. The conversation went far beyond the expected, touching many of our attendees in ways that were unanticipated but deeply impactful. Several members reached out afterwards to say how much Sabah’s story had stayed with them — it made them pause, reflect, and rethink how they show up for others. It was one of those rare moments where a speaker doesn’t just inform, but transforms the space.” - Radhika Joshi, Procurement operations specialist, DS Smith
“This highly accessible and important book breaks free from overwhelmingly white trans-narratives that indelibly link queerness to whiteness. Choudrey skilfully brings gender fluidity within Asia, Africa and the Americas, with its relationship to colonialism and the British Empire, out of the shadows.” - Eugene, Author of The Race Conversation
“A much needed resource for all individuals, groups and organisations looking to become more inclusive of trans people of colour. After a helpful primer on key concepts and language, Sabah Choudrey succinctly summarises the impact of intersecting axes of oppression, and sets out clearly what we need to do – from self reflection to systemic change – in order to cultivate safer spaces and practices. A deeply helpful and engaging read from start to finish.” - Meg-John, author of How To Understand Your Gender
