Former cricketer and popular after dinner speaker, Robert Key, enjoyed a highly successful career with Kent County Cricket Club. Born from a family of cricketers - both his mother and father played in their respective teems - it is no surprise that Robert quickly excelled on the pitch. As a speaker, Robert discusses everything from his early experience of cricket, hailing from a family of players and the winning mindset needed to succeed.
Robert played his first match for Kent County Cricket Club aged just 16, in 1995. For the next two years, he was a regular figure on the team, quickly hitting his first two centuries. Despite his youth, Robert boasted an unbeaten 146 against Essex's second team and 139 against Glamorgan's. Rising through the ranks, he is also credited for England's victory in the Under-17's, scoring a whopping 184 runs.
Among his other achievements, Robert concluded his youth career as the top run-scorer in the Tests, with an incredible average of 62.83%. Robert scored four first-class centuries in 2001, followed by innings of 177 against the formidable Australia. In 2002, he was offered a spot at Marylebone Cricket Club, with whom he scored 77 in a drawn match against Sri Lanka.
Upon joining the England side for the One Day International, Robert was one of five to be awarded Wisden Cricketers of the Year. In 2006, he became Kent County Cricket Club's Captain, leading them to a County Championship 2nd Division Championship title in 2010. While playing with the club, Robert was also a regular commentator on Sky Sports, offering his expert opinion on international tours.
As a sports speaker, Robert invites audiences to take a journey through his career with him. From humble beginnings in a cricket-mad family, to thriving on an international level, his story is truly thrilling. Robert is also an expert in peak performance and marginal gains, developed during his career on the pitch.
