Sam Curran

Sam Curran is an English born cricketer of South African heritage who plays for England and Surrey CCC. Widely recognised for his exciting playing style, Sam has become one of the most talked about young players in English cricket. Coming from a cricketing family, Sam was destined to be a success on the field. In 2015 he became the youngest ever player to take five wickets in a County Championship match when he made his senior debut for Surrey. The Surrey Director of Cricket is quoted as saying Sam is the best seventeen-year-old cricketer he has ever seen.

As he continued to have success with Surrey he was scouted for England’s Under-19s team and made his first appearance in the 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup where he played all six games. Receiving his first senior cap for England in 2018, Sam has gone on to travel the world with England and compete in both One Day Internationals and Test Matches. He is a fast bowling all-rounder, former BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award nominee, and has recently been awarded the International Newcomer of the Year at The British Sports Awards 2018. In his debut International Test Series against India in 2018, Sam was named England Player of the Series, having contributed 272 runs and 11 wickets in the 4-1 series victory.

For his success in the 2018 season, Sam was named as the Cricket Writers’ Club Young Cricketer the Year and the ICC listed him as one of the five breakout stars in Cricket in the same year. Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack awarded Sam the title of Cricketer of the Year, amongst five others in 2019, a huge achievement for a young athlete.
