Former British cricketer Chris Cowdrey has established a career as a sports speaker since his retirement in early the 1990’s; part of three generations of British cricketers Cowdrey is one of the most well-respected cricket speakers currently working on the after dinner speaker circuit. After successfully playing for Kent Chris was rewarded by being selected for the England tour of India in 1984. He made his debut for England playing as short leg fielder, but was shortly asked to bowl by the England captain much to his surprise. His first time bowling was quite significant, as he became one of the only 19 England players to take a wicket in their first over.
After the tour of India Chris didn't play with England again until 1988, during the famous summer of the four captains. After playing for Kent from 1976 until 1991 Cowdrey still remains affiliated with the club and often works as a cricket speaker for the club. His son, Fabien Cowdrey, made his debut for Kent County in 2012 making him the fourth member of the Cowdrey family to play county cricket for the club.
Chris, along with his father Colin, often appears as an after-dinner speaker at Kent club events regaling members with stories of the clubs highs and lows from the 1960s to the present day. As well as playing for Kent County Chris Cowdrey was also, albeit briefly, captain of the England national team, he appeared in several ODI’s from 1984 until his departure from the team in 1988. In his capacity as a cricket speaker, Chris is also available to discuss international cricket tournaments, his own experience as captain of the England team providing him with a special insight into the inner workings of the English team. Outside his work as a sports speaker for live events Chris Cowdrey is also a broadcaster and commentator for talkSPORT and has been involved with several projects with Sky Sports commentating on high profile cricket matches.
