Former England cricketer, Mike Gatting OBE, played first-class cricket for twenty three years and represented England for eighteen of them. Between 1986 and 1988 he provided as captain for an impressive twenty-three test matches. Now he's still massively involved in the cricket world, making him an excellent addition to sporting functions as a cricket and keynote speaker.
Although it took Mike several years to establish himself within the England team once this was achieved he was regarded as one of the greatest batsman in the country. Not only was he a feared batsman but also had a solid reputation for being a right arm medium pace bowler, making Mike an all rounded player on the field. 1984 saw Mike named as one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year and awarded an OBE for his contribution to cricket.
Mike is known by most for his role in the 'Shakoor Rana affair' which spiralled from a disagreement between the umpire and England Captain regarding what was believed to be an illegal fielding manoeuvre. Mikes termination of captaincy occurred during the 'Summer of four captains' in which England played the five test series against the West Indians, fielding 4 different captains. Mike was also the captain of the famous 'rebel tour' which took place in South Africa in 19990.
Following his retirement in 1998 Mike still heavily enjoys a career in cricket and acts as Managing Director of Cricket Partnerships at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This allows Mike to still be involved in the top level of sport he spent his life competing in.
Mike makes for a hugely entertaining cricket speaker with a handful of stories to tell. Mike is an extremely popular and sought after keynote and after dinner speaker who entirely engages his audiences with his side of the story with regards to some of the most controversial moments in English cricketing history. As an individual that's involved with ECB he can give insights into both the past and present of cricket and is keen to set records straight on events that may have been miscontructed by the press. Over all Mike delivers an extremely memorable speech.
