Nicole Bearne is a championship-winning communications leader, keynote speaker and Founder of The Comms Exchange, best known for her role as Head of Internal Communications at the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team. Over a 25-year career in Formula 1, Nicole helped shape the culture behind nine Constructors’ and eight Drivers’ World Championships, playing a central role in one of the most dominant eras in motorsport history.
Nicole began her Formula 1 journey in the late 1990s as a founding member of British American Racing, supporting the creation of a brand-new team from the ground up. Starting as Assistant to the Team Principal, she moved into a communications role, working in PR and media relations at race events around the world. Her career progressed through Honda Racing F1, where she became Executive Assistant to the Team Principal, before working closely with Ross Brawn during the extraordinary 2009 season at Brawn GP. That year, the team secured both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ World Championships in its only season of competition, a rare and historic achievement. Alongside her trackside career, Nicole invested in academic development, earning an MSc in Organisational Behaviour and a postgraduate Diploma in Internal Communications, grounding her practical experience in organisational psychology.
Following the team’s transition to Mercedes ownership, Nicole stepped into the role of Head of Internal Communications, creating and leading the internal communications function for a workforce of nearly 1,500 people across two UK campuses. Operating at board level, she shaped leadership communication, employee engagement and cultural alignment during a period that delivered eight consecutive Constructors’ Championships from 2014 to 2021. Nicole embedded practices such as open race debriefs, candid leadership briefings and a no-blame approach to failure, helping engineers, mechanics and corporate teams align under intense global scrutiny. In 2023, she founded The Comms Exchange, advising organisations on employee experience and high-performance culture, and in 2024 she was appointed Independent Non-Executive Director at Motorsport UK, bringing strategic oversight on communication, culture and governance within British motorsport.
As a keynote speaker, Nicole translates the pressure, pace and precision of Formula 1 into practical lessons for leaders and teams. She speaks on high-performance communication, psychological safety, marginal gains, employee experience and leading change in complex environments. Nicole shares real examples from race weekends and championship campaigns to show how clarity of message and shared purpose drive results. Audiences value her credibility, warmth and evidence-based insight, leaving with frameworks they can apply immediately within their own organisations.
