Bernadette Collins

Bernadette Collins has enjoyed great success in the motorsport industry, having worked in all aspects of strategy, analysis and journalism of Formula One. Currently working as an Analyst for Sky Sports and F1TV, Bernadette is best known for the tenure she spent as the Head of Race Strategy for Aston Martin F1 Team. Breaking glass ceilings as a woman in a male-dominated sport, Bernadette, otherwise known as Bernie, is paving the way for girls to follow their motorsport dreams. Following studies for a Master of Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast, Bernadette had the opportunity to join the graduate programme at McLaren Racing. Learning in-depth details about vehicle dynamics, system engineering and design of the McLaren equipment, Bernie was later promoted to Graduate Engineer for McLaren. Later promoted further to a fully-fledged Design Engineer, Bernie worked on projects such as designing a dyno modular carbon gearbox and detailed drawings of the components in the final drive wheel. Following two successful years as a Design Engineer, Bernadette later became a Performance Engineer for McLaren – working on various aspects of performance such as brake balance, throttle pedal maps and fuelling. After nearing six years with McLaren, Bernadette went on to be a Performance & Strategy Engineer for the Sahara Force India F1 Team and a Senior Strategy Engineer for the BWT Racing Point F1 Team.

In 2020, Bernie scored her biggest role yet, being appointed as the Head of Race Strategy for Aston Martin F1 Team. In this role, Bernie was responsible for all aspects of race strategy, working tirelessly to maximise the team championship points that Aston Martin could score. During her time with Aston Martin, Bernadette had the opportunity to travel the globe to the F1 races, alongside working to improve the infrastructure of the Aston Martin team. In 2022, Bernadette became the Director of BC Engineering Consultancy Ltd and an Analyst for F1 TV, before beginning her current role as an F1 Analyst for Sky Sports. Aside from F1, Bernadette has also acted as an Ambassador for the Make It In Great Britain campaign.

Named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2016, Bernadette Collins has without a doubt marked her name in the history books of motorsport.
