Millie Bright is an English professional football player who is currently a defender for Chelsea and is part of the England National Team. In 2022 Millie was selected to be part of the National team which would eventually go on to win the UEFA Women’s Euros. With her talent and skills highly regarded within the team, Millie was named vice-captain to Leah Williamson and was one of the main figures on which England would build their ERUO 2022 success around. Her dedication to the team clear from the onset, in 2015 she was named Chelsea Players’ Player of the Year and for only the second time in the team’s history, during the 2016-2017 season, they made it to the UEFA Women’s Champions League. In 2016 she was then named the Vauxhall England Young Player of the Year in recognition of her immense talent.
Having first represented England in the under-19 and then in the under-23 teams, Millie became used to the pressure of representing her country. Millie wore her England Team top with pride in the 2022 UEFA Euro’s, of which, she was one of the key players, and helped guide the team to victory. In the 2022 season, success would continue for Millie as she, despite being a defender, was the joint-highest goal scorer during the Arnold Clark Cup and received the Golden Boot. In 2023, Millie was selected to play as a defender in the 2023 England Women's World Cup squad. During her time playing in the tournament, Millie was named as the interim Captain, due to Leah Williamson's injury, and spent 660 minutes on the pitch in seven matches. In those seven matches, Millie was able to assist in a goal that got England into the final of the World Cup. When England reached the final of the World Cup, Millie was named in the final line-up and played against Australia.
Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of her career, Millie was nominated for the Ballon D’or – the highest accolade in football. With her name forever studded in the history books as the recipient of numerous other awards including winning the BWSL (Barclays Women’s Super League) title four times, and the FA Cup three times, Millie has become a household name - most recently appointed OBE for Services to Association Football in the 2024 New Year Honours.
