Leah Williamson is a professional Footballer for the Women’s England National Team, England Lioness Captain and currently a defender for Arsenal’s women’s team. A national treasure, Leah has represented England since 2010 and has been breaking boundaries since. On a sustained mission to captain the Lionesses to championship, Leah Williamson is on an unbeaten run.
In 2006, Leah joined Arsenal’s Centre of Excellence aged 9 and played for England since 2011, progressing through every age group since U15s. After making her debut in the Champions League quarter-final, Leah appeared 12 times in the 2014 Women’s Super League and earned many victories such as her first major title of the 2014 FA Women’s Cup and was named the FA WASL Cup Player of the Year. Leah also won the England Women’s Youth Player of the Year award in 2015 and was titled PFA Young Women’s Player of the Year 2014-15, gratifying her progression and skill in the sport.
After a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup at Wembley in 2016, Leah’s talent was distinguished above others. In 2017 she was called to join the Lioness Senior team, making her debut against Russia in the 2019 FIFA World Cup. Continuing her success, Leah captained England twice at the end of 2021, in the 2023 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and after winning both games, Leah was named Player of the Match. Leading the Lionesses to glory yet again, the team succeeded under Leah’s captainship in the inaugural edition of the Arnold Clark Cup in February 2022. A month later, Leah confirmed her role as Team Captain of the England Lionesses for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 which England went on to win in a 2-1 victory over Germany, playing as a midfielder alongside Georgia Stanway, Fran Kirby, Jill Scott, Ella Toone and Keira Walsh. Following their incredible success, Leah and the Lionesses were awarded the Inspiration of the Year Award at the Pride Awards following their incredible performance at the Euros. In 2023, Leah was appointed OBE in the New Year Honours for Services to Association Football.
As a notable figure in sports, Leah has worked with a variety of brands and household names including Gucci, Nike, Pepsi, Vogue and Swarovski as part of their #FollowTheLight campaign. Widely recognised, Leah is a female inspiration ahead of the game. Leah is a spirited and charismatic speaker, motivating women to break boundaries and inspiring them to strive for greatness.
