Helen Richardson-Walsh is a gold medal-winning, midfield Hockey player, competing for both England and Great Britain since 1999. She achieved an impressive 293 international caps, making her the 5th most-capped female Great Britain Hockey player. Amongst her many career highlights, Helen has been part of the GB team that won Gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Helen became the youngest female Hockey Olympic player, firmly positioning herself as a rising star within the sport. With a taste for victory, Helen went on to win silver in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and bronze in the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games. In 2012, Helen captained Team GB in the 2012 London Olympics, taking home a bronze medal. Coach at Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club, Head Coach of Cambridge City HC, Helen also served as Performance & Culture Coach for the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
Helen is the co-author of “Winning Together: An Olympic-Winning Approach to Building Beter Teams”. Through it, she shares the lessons she learned through her experiences at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was awarded the National Lottery Spirit of Sport Award at the 2017 Sports Journalist Association British Sports Awards. She has often been requested to share her commentary on hockey as a Sports Pundit on BT Sport, BBC5 Live, BBC Sport and Radio 5 Live. In 2021, Helen completed her Master’s degree in Industrial and Organisation Psychology from City, University of London.
Helen was appointed MBE for services to hockey in the 2017 New Year’s Honours List. Determined to support the LGBTQ community, being part of it herself, she is a patron for the Proud Lilywhites, a Tottenham Hotspur LGBTQ Supporters Club.
