Lucy Bronze is regarded as one of the best players in the world in her position. The England right-back has won everything there is to win in England playing at several top clubs throughout her career so far. She has become an established player amongst the Lionesses since making her debut in 2013.
Bronze started her football journey with Alnwick Town A.F.C up until the under 11s when the F.A rules prevented her from progressing further with the boy’s team. Following this, she joined Sunderland where she would progress from the under-12s into the senior team at 16. In the 2007/08 season, Lucy earnt Manager’s Player of the Year. The following year, she helped them win the Northern division seeing Sunderland progress into the National Division. Her consistent performances at this level landed her a spot in the England U17 squad. Following this, Lucy moved to the USA where she attended the University of North Carolina and played for the North Carolina Tar Heels, the most successful Division 1 team in the country where she eventually became the first British player to win an NCAA Cup.
Lucy played for some of the biggest teams in the WSL (Women’s Super League), the highest level of women’s football in England, consisting of Everton, Liverpool and Manchester City before making a move to France. In France, she won nine trophies over a three-year spell at the club winning three UEFA Champions Leagues and finishing runner-up in the Women’s Ballon’dor (a competition which recognises the best player in the world each year). In 2019, Lucy was named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year. 2020 saw Bronze return to Manchester City after her success at Olympique Lyonnais earning her The Best FIFA Women’s Player Award where she became the first Defender and first English player to win it and has since signed a contract with European giants Barcelona.
Alongside her decorated domestic career, Lucy Bronze has had an extensive career with the England Lionesses. She made her senior debut in 2013 and has gone on to star in multiple major tournaments being named in several teams of the tournament and achieving various awards. Named in the tournament-winning Euro 2022 squad, alongside Team Captain Leah Williamson and managed by Sarina Wiegman, Lucy continues to prove herself as an integral part of the Lioness squad and is the perfect speaker for a variety of events. In 2023, Lucy was selected to play as a defender in the England squad for the 2023 Women's World Cup. During the World Cup, Lucy took to the pitch in seven matches, playing for a total of 641 minutes and making 377 passes with a 77.2% success rate.
Following their incredible success, Lucy and the Lionesses were awarded the Inspiration of the Year Award at the Pride Awards following their incredible performance at the Euros. In 2015, Lucy was named as the face of Sainsbury’s Active Kids campaign as well as more recently featuring in a campaign with EE aiming to combat sexist hate towards women’s footballers.
