Jen Easterly was nominated as Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency by President Joe Biden in 2021. Jen is responsible for reducing risks to the cyber and physical infrastructure that millions of Americans rely on day in and out. Jen obtained her educational qualifications from the University of Oxford and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Her career began as a Military Intelligence Officer at the XVIII Airborne Corps after which she assumed responsibility as an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, her alma mater. Working at the National Security Council, Jen served as an Executive Assistant to the National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. Additionally, she was the Brigade Operations Officer for the US Army Intelligence and Security Command and has been Battalion Commander for the National Security Agency.
For 3 years, Jen worked closely with former President Barack Obama as his Special Assistant and Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council. In this role she led the development and coordination of the U.S. counterterrorism and hostage policy and received the 2018 James W. Foley American Hostage Freedom Award. Over the years, Jen has been bestowed with several awards and accolades for her invaluable contributions to national and cyber security. These include National Defence University Admiral Grace Hopper Award, which she won during her tenure as Head of Firm Resilience & the Fusion Resilience Center at Morgan Stanley, and the 2024 George C. Marshall Award in Ethical Leadership.
Jen is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations owing to her illustrious career and 20 years of service in intelligence and cyber operations.
