Frankie Fredericks

A hugely impressive athlete Frankie Fredericks is a track and field runner born in Namibia who currently stands as the only Olympic silver medallist from his country; winning two silver medals in 1992 and another two in 1996 Frankie now works as an after dinner speaker at Olympic and athletic events around the world. Often called upon to appear as an Olympic speaker in the native Namibian media Frankie Fredericks is remembered not only for his Olympic success but also as a World Championship gold medallist and a two time Commonwealth Games gold medallist. Taking part in both the 100 and 200 metres races Frankie Fredericks is an incredibly popular Olympic speaker, his appearance at both the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games only overshadowed by his success at a variety of other global sporting events.

Throughout the 1990’s Fredericks appeared as a contestant and sports speaker at more than fifteen world tournaments winning gold medals at the 93’ Stuttgart World Championships, the 99’ Maebashi World Indoor Championships, the 91’ All Africa Games as well as the 98’ World Cup and the 94’ Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

However, Frankie’s most successful games were arguably the 1998 and 2002 African Championships where he dominated the track and field competitions and, beating all other participating sportsmen and Olympic speakers, achieved gold in both the 200 and 100 metres. Frankie Fredericks retired from athletics in the early part of the 2000’s making his final high profile appearance at the Manchester Commonwealth Games (taking gold in the 200m); since retiring Frankie has become a dedicated after dinner speaker, touring the world addressing audiences about his own sporting success and highlighting how they too can achieve similar feats. As well as working as a sports speaker, Frankie Fredericks is also a committed member of Champions for Peace, a group of elite athletes who work to promote world peace through international sport.
