British stage and screen actor Duncan Preston is probably most well-known for his performances alongside female comedian Victoria Wood in shows such as Dinnerladies and Acorn Antiques. Also a renowned Shakespearean actor Preston has had recurring roles in a number of British television soap operas as well as working with The Royal Shakespeare Company.
Born in Bradford in 1946, Duncan Preston has been working as an actor since his late teens, landing his first big and recurring role in 1973 when he starred as PC Fred Pooley in Hunter’s Walk. Since then Preston has gone on to appear in some of the most popular and long-standing television series in recent British history, making appearances in Midsomer Murders, Bergerac, Eastenders and Boon.
Preston first appeared alongside Victoria Wood in Victoria Wood As Seen On TV where he played a recurring role as Mr Clifford and continued to work with Wood until the early 1990’s. Duncan Preston continued to work as a comic actor, later appearing as the notorious Kevin’s father in the Harry Enfield sketches as well as working with Steve Coogan and the comedy TV series Surgical Spirit.
In more recent years Duncan Preston will be known by audiences as the actor who played Douglas Potts in Emmerdale and Dennis Stokes in Coronation Street. Preston has been playing Doug Potts for almost a decade, making his first on-screen appearance as the character back in 2007.
